Born in the Amazon region, in Pará, more specifically in the city of Belém, where he graduated medical school at UFPA in 1955. There he received the “Raul Leite” award, only granted to those exceptional students who were the best throughout the course. After that he was a university teacher, doctor for the Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará, authority at INSS, and a private doctor.
